Removing Driveshaft

Thats odd since the drive shaft bolts are 12 point instead of hex heads.

My bad. I'm refering to the bolts that hold the two-pieces of the drive shaft together. When I did the clutch, I only dropped the front driveshaft of the two-piece driveshaft design.

Ah, I never thought about doing it that way. Don't like the odds of losing a u-joint cap.

I use a 12mm 12 point stubby combination wrench and a 2 lbs sledge hammer.

I didn't have a problem with losing them. Just warp a layer of duct tape around if you are too worried. One thing to note. Before removing the front piece driveshaft. Make an alignment mark on both of them so you know where to re-align them. This way there won't be any un-balance issues when reassembled.

I don't think I've ever gotten the plate near 400*, maybe 200* and am able to get them out without issue

Yea I thump them with a hammer works good, shock seems to break them loose real well.Wrapping the u-joint with black tape works good cause you can hold the caps while you take the tape off, narrower role leaves room.Like Allen D make sure to put anti seize on those they stick easy.

Alright, got a torch from a friend, where the best place to hit em? The bolt head?

bolt head, or close to the flange. try to keep it away from the plastic cover at the pinion, you don't want to melt that or damage the seal behind it.

heat and your foot... i have ford for the 12 point bolts...
