ok I've had it.

I decided to replace the front parking brake cable. Alldata says it about an hour job.

BS

How the heck do you remove the first cable lug from the darn foot pedal control???

It winds up and over the cam, and the barrel lug is in there with no way to get it out.

I have the control unbolted from the side, but that didn't help. I can't pull the cable out and can't push it thru. WTF?????

If I can get the lug out of the control I can move on. Do I have the completely dissassemble the control???

UGH.

If you're still working on this...the lug has to be at right angles to the hole and to do that you need to release the rear connector...pull the cable up through the floorboards, then angle the lug, lift it up a bit to clear the narrow slot, then it should come out...

But if you are changing the cable, just cut it off above the floor boards and it makes it easier to remove...make sure you connect that end on the new cable first after feeding the line through the floor...

Thanks 88.

Did just that it it came right out.

So I got the front, intermediate, and both rear cables replaced exactly as required.

Cable is slightly taut when released and the rear drums are adjusted equally so there is just a touch of drag. Everythings adjusted.

But the brake pedal feels some grab about 75% of the way down and wont lock the wheels until it hits the floor. With a load, Ranger still creeps on a hill.

Is there nothing to do? These are new cables, not stretched at all. Adjusters are set right.

Cool, but not...

When was the last time you replaced the shoes and drums (or had them turned)? That may be the only thing left to do...but other than that, if you have a load on the truck it's going to want to crawl away to level ground even with the PB set...I usually leave mine in first gear and as long as the compression is good on the engine it won't go too far...even on a steep incline...but I've never tried parking it with a load...
