Remove A/C in 1999 Ranger?

I'm in the process of replacing the engine on my 3.0L 1999 Ranger. The A/C has been dead for years and I want to remove it. Can I just remove the components and use the serpentine belt from the non-A/C version?

Will I get check engine codes because the A/C hardware is missing?

Don't know about the codes, but the belt with no a/c will work,
why don't you just have the system checked to find and fix the leaks and just recharge?

Sure, I could do that. It's about the money. This is vehicle #3 for me, I only use it for runs to the dump and Home Depot.

The rust is so bad that the brackets holding the condenser are just about gone. I removed everything to replace the engine and I'd rather not put it all back.
