Im thinking about doing a removable top on my b2300. I was talking it over w/ my step dad and we both think its pretty much doable. We are gunna cut out from a little behind the windshield and stop it a few inches just before the rear window panel. Has anyone done this before?? Think its a good idea? Kinda looking for some suggestions too on how to lock in in place and a ledge for weatherstripping and the like. Thanks

Are you planing on keeping the hard section as the top, or using cloth/ top material?

One of my friends cut the top off of his Ranger (it was rolled when he got it, so off it went) and the the thing has horrible body/ frame flex offroad now...

But then agian, your's has a 2.3 not a 2.9 like his, and I doubt you take it off road.

I think it would just be a matter of folding/ fabricating a lip out of fairly thick sheet metal (slightly thicker than what your doors/ hood is). I'd take the sheet metal and make a lip for both the top of the windsheild, and the cut out section, so that it slides/ fits together nicely. And you'll have to get some cam-style latches or soemthing to hold it to the main part of the body when it is on. And other than that, I'd just get somethin like weather striping for the trunk lid of some car, and use that. That way you have plenty of lenght without having a seem in the middle of the roof.

Would you be getting rid of the upper edge of where the door frame goes up next to the cab-roof, or would it be like a giant removable sun roof and only be a hole in the roof?? Some more info would defentally help alot.

they used to sell kits for that.

it gets done alot still. i plan on some sort of removable system...someday:D

of course the flex thing in my vision is more then compensated for.

they used to sell kits for that.

Would you happen to know where I could buy one of those kits or if they are even still available?? Ive never seen such a thing.

And your right, I definitely would not be taking this off road. It is gunna be just like a giant removable sun roof. Im still going to be using the part of the roof i cut out to fill the hole in, no cloth pieces... dont really like that too much. I figured that would be better for the doors / windows if I left the upper part of the door as well as some of the roof. Might also give me a little bit more protection too, how ever i am thinking of adding a 4pt roll cage too.

Thanks for your help

i am not into stuff like that, but there were shops where i lived in detroit and flint in the late 80's and early 90's that did that regularly.

airbagit.com sells kits for that but all i found was for 1st/2nd gen. rangers. but you might look anyways. they are called Ratical removable hardtop kits or something like that. but i would definetly put a roll bar on the back and an X brace behind the seat

just my opinion but hope it helps

Yeah, im definitely gunna do the roll bar. Thanks for the website... the kit wasnt the exact thing but I think the instructions that they provided with the kit are gunna be a great help. Thanks

I plan on getting a 4x2 and doing something like that or T-tops. I planned on cutting off the upper part of the door, welding it to the roof, and doing something like most sport compacts do and have a frameless window.
