remanufactured tire


I wouldn't buy em. However, I do work in a tire warehouse so i could just pay that price for band new ones. :-\
 
recaps are a bad idea on passenger vehicles. there was a thread on this not too long ago. they are dangerous, and usually dont balance out well.
 
yea not a good idea for the front they would maybe be ok for the rear
 
Aren't these from Treadwright (High tech reareading)? I'm considering buying the MT/R version in a 31 for my B2. Anyone know how good they are?

There were many positive reports about a version with "Green Diamonds" Hi-Tec used to sell in the past for use in snow & ice, but I think they've since canned them. They worked much better than normal "winter" tires (but not quite as good as studded tires).

I wouldn't run their standard-issue tires myself though. The MT/R tread pattern sucks in mud compared to a BFG MT and some others.

Actually the last time I was on their website it seemed that they had made off with a bunch of molds from name brand tire companies.

i ran the muds for a while.. for what i paid they were a great tire. my buddy ran them on his rig for 2 years an its a DD.. no problems
 
I've ran the muds for about 2 years, no problems yet.
 
So what's the verdict with these tires? If I get a set, do I need to worry about tread separation? Should I just pay full price for BFG Muds ?
 
I bet they'll be fine.

Those re-treads are basically injection molded so they're solid all the way around, and not by gluing a new strip of rubber to a tire husk (the old way, which IS the dangerous way, and also have balancing issues). A modern retreaded tire should have very few issues.

Most passenger aircraft tires are re-treads.

Semi truck tires that end up as chunks on the side of the expressway are due to improper maintenance, and not of the re-treading process. Generally low pressure causes the steel bands in the tire to fatigue too quickly, and drop several thousand pounds on them (like a loaded trailer) and it's no surprise they pop.
 
Are these basically the same as or close to the BFG Muds as far as the tread pattern goes? Would they be a good choice?

they are definately worth the money but they are a pain in the ass to balance (one took almost 5 ounces), Once you run them down the road for about 6k miles get them balanced again and they will be much better. they ride decently well when balanced correctly and they make a bit of noise but I am running the mud tire they sold, I believe it was OTR mud. I've got about 16,000 or so miles on them and they are about half worn with about 8/32 of tread depth. They will be coming off soon however, when I move up to 33 inch tires.
 
I don't know anything about the technology--past or present--of RE-treads, but I note that wherever they're used routinely (heavy passenger aircraft, tractor-trailers), they are deployed in PAIRS, for redundancy, i.e. what's the chance of both tires blowing out/separating at the same time?

Thus while 16 of the 18 wheels on a "semi" might be re-treads, the critical front 2 tires NEVER are.

No such redundancy on ye olde Ranger... OTOH, if you never exceed 60MPH on hot days, you'll probably be OK... but get a WARRANTY, eh?
