I started out by pulling the drum off my rear (89 7.5 rear w/9" brakes) and all the chewed up parts that used to be the innards fell out in a pile. replaced all that, re did them, even had to replace the master and the RABS block. I did both sides and replace what was needed on each side.

2 new probs now.

1) Anti lock light now on after I start driving for a short distance (50 yards up to 1/2 sometimes) and then will reset (go away) when I shut it off and restart. I did remove the batt connector after all the brake work to try and get the comp to reset everything.
didnt do that before the brake change.

2) under load (driving while accelerating, etc.) heavy vib. Cant identify what it is, its almost like the driveshaft is only half connected, or massively dragging and out of balance wheels, etc. but, only under load. I push the clutch in and rev the engine, no vib.

I am new to this forum and think its great. I love my little truck and would like to keep it. Thanks.

I will be soon (couple of months) either replacing the rear with a 308 8.8 10" etc (I have the 7.5 345 8.8 now) or just the innards

If you have an extended cab, you should have a carrier bearing on the drive shaft. The bearing is supported by a rubber dampener. The rubber gets old and wears out. Take a look at that. You may also have a ujoint starting to go bad in your drive shaft.

You nailed it! I found the culprit today. Thanks for the help!:clapping:

Now, I am starting to look for a new rear end, (8.8 and disks) to swap out. Projects never end!

Thanks for getting back and updating the thread. It doesnt help others that are searching and reading when there is no resolution to the problem.
