Red Stepside build

The reason I say it's a beast is because of the reliability. These engines take a beating. It reminds me of the old 351W with less torque and greater mileage. You can best the living shit out of them and they keep on truckin. They may not be a powerhouse, but they hold up to abuse. I've cooked a 327, 350, 302, 4.0 (twice), and most recently an LS1. And I have respect for the 3L. That should tell you something.

I've seen the reliability. I drive the snot out of it. Maybe I'll just regear it to 4.88 or lower.

That will help. The suspension is ping to be awesome. I can't wait to see what you do with this thing!

It should be pretty slick - 35x12.5x15 grabbers, Method double standards(polished ring, I want polished center but they don't do that in the doubles - maybe ill get them powder coated red at some point), Burg LT w/ 2.0 hubs, SAW or red King C/Os up front. Glassworks 4"(maybe 6) up front and McNeil 4" stepside bedsides

Yes. Will be frickin awesome. I didnt know King was doing red now.

King can do any color. They've got like 5 colors they can normally do, others are special order. Best looking combo I've seen is black bodies with gold annodized bits

So I'm thinking that around a 5.00 gear will be about right with 35s. Using the converter the correct ratio is 4.88, but I think by stepping it up a bit the truck will actually have some go. Plus the grabbers are heavy so the lower ratio should help. Thoughts on this? Will it be too much?

EDIT: looking at Yukon's site, they have a 5.12 set. With the amount of revs the 3.0 can do, it should be fine with that, right? And if I swapped over to a 5spd would it still be ok? Also looking at their Dura Grip LSD, thoughts?

Ooo gonna do a 5 speed swap? I have some threads about it I've collected, Ill try to remember to send them to you when I get to my laptop. Using a combo of junkyard and new parts it can be done around 1k

The 5 speed is geared a lot lower than the auto. 5.12/5.13 on a 35 is going to be LOW. Like really really low. I run 4.56's in the yellow truck and with 35's, it's about right. I say 4.88s would be perfect for you.

When I was planning on racing I was going to run 5.13's with 33's. For the desert and racing you want to be higher up in the gears at speed. I bet with 35's and a 3.0 I bet 5.13's would be about perfect

Kinda what I was thinking Benny.

Thinking about doing a good service on the engine to try and get a few horses back, what should I replace/service? Injectors, spark plugs, etc?

plugs, wires, coil, seafoam it a few hundred miles before an oil change, clean IAC/MAF, clean air filter, fuel filter, 4.0 swap.

How bout a running 4.3 v6 in a vehicle with a mild cam for 1k? Runs strong too. Body, tires, and hubs are shot but the engine and tranny are good. It's an 03
