We have been gutting a few of our older buildings at work and being the pack rat that I am I brought home the wiring and some conduit that we were throwing away to add a few recept's in my garage...I love free stuff:icon_thumby: anyway that got me thinking about maybe recycling the copper but you get a way better price with the insulation removed so my question is how to remove it without spending more time on it than its worth? any ideas?

be prepared for them to be very suspicious of you when you show up with a bunch of copper wire...back when copper prices were about $4/pound it was a big thing for people to break into construction sites and rip wire out of the building to get money for it.

yeah just burn it off, my uncle is an electrician and does this all the time with scrap wireing, just make sure its burned off completely

Burn it thats what I do. My dad works in construction and I help him quite a bit. On remodel jobs when we rip out the old stuff it always goes with us at the end of the day.

im just lazy and leave everything on the wire. i leave some of the switches and recepticals on em. they dont see em half the time anyway putting them in the middle of the can helps. yeas, i do rip off my local jy a bit... i need the money to save more rbvs

Same as with witches; burn it!

Cant tell you how many times thats happened out here. Caught 3 guys rippin LIVE wire off of a Irrigation pump. Only reason they were caught is cause one of ems dead now.

Cant even go off roading out here without seeing leftover insulation everywhere where it can be ditched.

thanks, I'll give the burn method a whirl:D

FYI….burning didn’t go over well…too much funky toxic smoke. I made a slitter with a brass tubing fitting and a razor blade mounted to my vice…worked great:icon_thumby:

the fuky smell is normal. i tought you would have known that would happen. the coating is plastic ya know

Yes I did know it would be funky :D…it didn’t go over well with my neighbors :badidea:

I took a lot of metal to scrap and got very little for all of it, the guy was telling that metal is in the crapper right now, gee you would think the ammo prices would come down a little.
