Have any of you done this on the 2.8 V6?

Is it worth doing?

Also, where did you find the recurve/spring kit?

I've got a 1983 4x4 with the 2.8 that's going to be my daily driver. Most of the time I'll be traveling 40 to 60mph, and the farthest distance would be about 30 miles each way to work. I also have the 390cfm carb, Offy intake, stage 2 cam, long tube headers, and I'll also be doing a bunch of work to the heads.

Thank you for any help you guys can give me.

I know this is not much help but something to think about. I thought about it when I did the d/s conversion to my b2 but did not. The mechanical advance comes up fairly soon and as the 2.8 needs to rev to make any power it would be at maximum mechanical advance before it really gets on the cam (more so with a hot cam) then it would be up to the vacuum advance to bring the rest up. The cam would vary the revs that the vacuum works at, as would the intake and headers. I wouldn't tackle this without the use of a dyno for fear of detonation. Just my two cents.

Thanks for the reply.

I've been looking for a weight and spring kit for this distributor, and still can't find it. I'll probably end up putting it in just the way it is.

I read where I need lighter springs so the ignition timing will be quicker. So I'll need a spring kit.

And the total advance should be 38 degrees by 2800 to 3000rpms. So I might need to change the weights.

I wanted to get the kit before I took the thing a part. Maybe I'll keep looking until I'm ready to put this motor together.

Anybody else buy a recurve kit in the past?

Wow, 47 views and none of you guys have recurved a distributor?

I thought you guys in here did all kinds of stuff to these trucks.

I kept it simple and just installed the duraspark setup as it was when I had my 2.8. But to keep it simple and cheaper for more power, I put in a HO 302 and called it good.

Thanks for the replies.

I thought about going with the V8, but since I have all the parts for this 2.8 V6, I'll just build this up. Besides, if I did buy a V8, I'd buy all the aftermarket stuff for that as well.

I would think a hotrod shop would have what you're looking for, or could point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the link, but that didn't help. I've looked there, Jegs, Summit, a whole bunch of places, and nothing. I've even looked up manufacturers and haven't seen anyone that makes those anymore. I guess no one makes stuff for the Duraspark II distributors. I even looked on ebay!

Maybe something will come up by the time I rebuild this motor.

Thanks again.

I say experiment with it. Make your own setup and find the spring setup and whatnot that you need.

I don't think I want to experiment with something like that. It's not only the springs I'd have to change but probably the weights as well. I'd like to make this truck my daily driver someday. My F250 at best gets 15.5 miles per gallon, and I'd like get try and do way better than that.

I don't of anyone who makes a curve kit for the 2.8. I have both the mechanical and vacuum advance disabled on my duraspark dist. because I put a gm tbi on my 84 B2 and the chevy ecm controls the advancement of timing.

I didn't even know you could mix Chevy stuff with Ford stuff.

I guess I'm too old school. I'd even try to use points and condenser if I could. LOL

You've never had a problem with timing?
