Recurrent P340 code

I have a 2001 2.5L Ranger. 200400 miles, runs great. It is displaying a p340 engine code(camshaft position sensor) but, I have just replaced the sensor with a new Motorcraft sensor and took it to Autozone to erase the code from memory. Upon restarting the engine the code comes back on. Anyone out there with a similar history and knowledge on how to correctly identify problem.

Sounds like a wiring issue. You will need to trace all your wires back to their sources and find the break to repair it.

Was trying to avoid tracing wires but, looks like it must be done.

Cam sensor has 2 wires, located on Drivers side front of the engine, Crank sensor is on passenger side front, just to confirm you changed the right sensor

Grey/Red wire is the common wire and connects to many other sensors via splices, and ends up at Pin 91 on the computer(PCM)

Dark Blue/orange wire runs directly to PCM, Pin 85

Disconnect battery
PCM connector is upper firewall passenger side center
Unbolt it and pull it off
Use OHM meter to test for 0 OHMs, direct connection, at either end of those wires
Check connector for water intrusion, it can happen if hood gasket leaks
