I just installed a remanufactured 2.9L long block from Canada Engines in my '89 Ranger. Upon my first attempt to start the engine i found my timing was 180 degrees out, (backfired out of the throttle body). I corrected that and went to try to start it and it still only cranks over but won't start. I've checked all the spark plugs and they are sparking and the gap is 0.045 in all of them, and there's fuel and fuel pressure to the fuel rail (have yet to check the injectors). I have oil pressure and battery is fully charged and there are no loose wires or grounds and all connectors are mated.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

HAve you done a compression check?

have you tried to briefly spray starting fluid in the throttle body while attempting to start?? Then...if it tries to start or briefly runs then fuel is not getting delivered.

ALso, double check the firing order make sure that it is correct.
