I know a lot of you guys have rebuilt engines before and If I turbocharge mine, I would obviously need to rebuild it. NEWAYS... I just want to know how long it took you guys to completly rebuild the engine with new pistons lifters and so on....????

I would be working on it about 5-8 hours a day after work and all day on the weekends, before I throw it in the B2.

OH and one other question.. Does the 94' for explorer have a Mass Air Flow sensor or the MAP sensor that the 2.9 has?

The 94 will have a MAF sensor

depends if you have to correct tools and know what the hell you are doing, It could take a weekend if you had a friend and you knew what you were doing, other than that just take your time and do it right.

Yeah I would have the correct tools. I would do it at the Air Force Auto Hobby garage. They have full time mechanics there to help you out, If your on their good side lol.

Yes take your time and make sure all the parts are within specification. Measurements are very important and determine whether the engine will run for 40seconds or 40 years. Make sure everything is torqued correctly. Like many other's have said, it could take a weekend or a couple weeks. I replaced a head on my truck, from start to start-up, took 4 days. I took my time and made sure everything was tightened to spec and put on right. By the way this was a OHC 2.3. Also take in consideration the time it'll take the machine shop to magnaflux the heads, and/ or block, to make sure there are no cracks, and check them for straightness. :icon_thumby:

I lived with an ex-gf of mine years ago (not w/ her anymore), I was taking my time with my 2.9L build until I found out her mom lost the house. I had been rebuilding in the garage and we had less than a week to get out. Not only was she spending our money on other shit that was the house payment, she also told us at the last minute.

It took me 2 days solid, over 12 hours each day, to get the motor mounts changed, engine built (only had a cam installed) pistons, crank, intake, cam timing, lifters adjusted, etc., engine in and running. For a turbo setup, to get it running correctly, it's going to be much longer. Luckily nothing was too major, except the intake had issues since I had the heads milled .030". The machine shop told me it would be okay, but I ended up with a little water in my oil. Had the lower milled by the same shop on discount because of the bad info (even though I showed them a piece in How to rebuild 60 degree engines that indicated to do so) and has been a non-issue since..

I have never heard of Magnaflux. What is it lol? and how long does that normally take?

As for the turbo, Im not going to be running insane pressure to where I would need forged parts. Max pressure would be 8 PSI

Just kidding. I looked it up lol. I would have never of thought about using magnets. Thats pretty cool. What about machining the cylinders and what not? does that HAVE to be done or what? I know that it should probably be done, but I might as well ask.
