So, you have a blown head gasket...

Who do you go to for the most complete, most feesable rebuild kit just incase once you get all the way down you find a piston that wiggles too much?

I found a felpro one for $115.00 and Esslinger but that doesnt come with the rings and bearings. or valve stem seals from what I can see.

So who would you go with? Where would you get it? I'm trying to get everything I'll need for this rebuild at checker since I have a 25% off thing, and that will save me a little in the long run, but they want $260 for a rebuild kit that comes with vlave cover gaskets but not head gaskets??? We'll see, I'm going back there tomorrow to talk to the guy I know a little better there instead of the kid that said I don't know more than I think he should have.

Anyways, Just figured I'd ask to see if anyone else knew of a better place to look. Thanks!

after my last fiasco with overhauling my escort motor, i think ill stick with genuine motorcraft bearings, rings, and pistons from now on. a gasket is a gasket though, i just use whatever the local parts huts have in stock or can get quickly (other than cork, stay away from cork).

you have to order whats called a master kit, last time i did a small block it was like a $365, it came with piston's, rings, all the gaskets, valve guides, valvestem seals, oil pump. anything to do with the hard parts of the head like rocker arms and valves and valve springs were ordered seperate. FWIW on a master kit you need to know piston size so it's best to wait until block work is done so you know if they will be std. or oversize, as well as the bearings and rings

Just tore into it today... bad news first: Head gasket did not fail. But still let water in to the oil and oily water into the cylinder. No. 3 cylinder actually.

My thoughts: Guy I bought it from said he recently replaced the water pump... hmm... wonder what happened there... My idea is he ran it, the water pump passed away, head or block heated up and warped causing the leaky water jacket passage...

Good news: Just got a lead on a whole or very close to whole SVO mustang!!!!! So I might be stepping into forced induction and joining the turbo Ranger world a LOT sooner than expected! WooHOOO!!!!!

Let me know what you think, and thanks above guys for the info!
