Hes pretty much always right with what i need so im curious if im missing something on my window or if has been switched out from a diff year? thanks. heres my window and an online pic of the latch.

I think you might have an aftermarket rear window. Do you have a double or single sliding window? My '97 Ranger had a single sliding rear window, which was from the factory. My '90 had a double slider, which was installed at the dealer when purchased, only when replacing it a couple years ago did I relize that it was aftermarket. They may have had double sliders from the factory at one point, but that's at least my observation. I could be wrong, but that's one possibility why you see a difference.

it is a double slider and thats what i was leaning towards. thanks for you imput man! im really just trying to figure this thing out. any one else with a 96 double sliding mind uploading a pic of theirs? thanks

my 94 has a double slider & it looks different then what you have pictured, yet ford was able to get me a new latch, they actually even had it in stock & it even looks different then the kit that you have pictured

That doesn't look like a factory Ford double slider latch.

Sorry for the pic, but this is all I have right now of a double window slider lock. I'll half to go outside to get some better ones.

^^

That's the old-style one. The one pictured in the OP's post (bottom) is for sure the '95-'97 style reg cab latch (which can be fitted to the '89-'94 trucks as detailed here)

I would have to lean toward the OP's window being an aftermarket assembly as well. With a little drilling, I don't see why the Ford latch couldn't be fitted to it though (unless the glass is right behind where you'd have to drill the holes for the screws).

yeah i saw that post but i was afraid of hitting glass. thanks and i guess i might just have to cross my fingers and drill...

If you use a diamond bit, you can just go right through the glass and it won't hurt a thing. Or you could get a Harbor-Freight bit and it will get dull enough going through the aluminum, so that by the time you get to the glass, it will surely just stop and not hurt anything, meh? Personally, I'd just go with epoxy.
