Rear wheels locked up, won't go in gear.

Good Day to All,

Was coming home from work yesterday...got off the turnpike, thru the Sunpass toll booth, started to accelerate in the merge lane and Bang, Squeal the rear wheels locked up. Trans wouldn't shift into gear. Kind man pulled over to help, I waved him on because BSO had just pulled up and the Disco started. Tried to move her out of the lane of travel but wouldn't go in gear. Tow truck called. Conversing with the officer for a few minutes and the truck started rolling backwards. Jumped in and started tried to put in gear wouldn't go, stop engine put in gear restarted engine pulled to the side of road. Set emergency brake this time. Rolled behind the tow truck fine when towed home.

Here's the run-down:

1994 Ranger LT 3.0 engine, 4X4, M50D-R1 tranny, 1354 Electric transfer

Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

It's me again.

Crawled under today to find those rubber plugs leaking. Drained tranny, about 2 pints in her. Pulled plugs and sealed with RTV. Filled to proper level and took for spin. In neutral no noise. in gear horrible bearing noise. So off to the garage for new clutch kit and slave cylinder.

Trans holds 3 quarts. From your description, it is destroyed, rather common but expensive. How much metal was on the magnetic drain plug?

Clutch won't make it lock up like that.

You need a new MO5D transmission, as stated above.
