how hard is to replace a rear main seal on 1999 b2500 with a automataic.

Well, you have to remove the engine or the transmission to install a new rear main seal, so............

Depends on your definition of "hard".

Dropping the automatic trans would be easiest, IMO.

I don't think you need to lower the oil pan on that engine to replace rear main seal

No you do not have to drop the pan. Easiest is to drop the trans most times. Once its out have a couple sheet metal screws or self tapping screws to run into the casing. Use pliers to pull it out with the screws.
