Rear main seal issue-fixed twice, still leaks

Hello all, I had my rear main seal replaced twice on my 2001 Ranger 4.0. Second time even used the special tool from Ford to replace it. It still leaks-but it's odd, it only leaks about a quart (big puddle on my driveway), when the oil is filled to capacity, then it stops leaking from what I can tell. With that in mind, could the leak be somewhere else, a likely spot considering that it only leaks about a quart and then pretty much stops?

I never checked my old f150 that was exactly the same way. I feel like the leak is somewhere else though.

The problem might not be the seal itself, but the crankshaft being scratched up or buggered from past seal replacements. The leak will happen until the oil level in the oil pan gets below the seal, so losing a quart before it stops sounds about right.

You're not going to like what's involved to correct the problem if I'm right. (Possibly even a new crankshaft...)

I am pretty sure when I replaced my rear oil seal a few years ago, the seal had a sleeve that pressed onto the crankshaft with the seal. That should eliminate any problem with a scratch or wear on the crankshaft seal surface.

If OP used the Ford tool, a sleeve should've been part of the directions and new seal set...

I wasn't saying OP scratched the crank, but if some jackleg had replaced the seal before OP got the truck, who knows what might have happened.
