hi, i have an 03 2.3l 2wd ranger and i want to lower it. i have almost fried the rear diff in it, and i have access to an 8.8 out of an explorer. it is the same gearing, has abs and has the bigger drum brakes. could i use the explorer rear end to pull double duty and replace my wore out rear axle, and drop the rear of my truck, since the explorer is spring under? ive looked all over and everyone is putting spring perches on top of the axle for lifted 2wd's.

Search around. You shouldn't have any problem physically swapping axles.

The biggest thing to worry about is getting the right setup on the brakes. Drums take alot more pressure to activate than discs, so you'll lock them up quick if you don't work it out.

Good luck!

i have drums on my ranger anyways. the explorer has drums as well. i have searched around about using the explorer rearend to drop my truck, but everything i find has been about using it on lifted truck.
