Rear Driveshaft Replacement

Getting ready to replace my rear one piece shaft with a re-manufactured replacement assembly...(includes double u-joint at front and single at rear)

Read about marking the initial assembly to match alignment for re-assembly, but what about installing a replacement assembly?

Any alignment issues to worry about? The new assembly is supposed to be balanced.

The alignment marks are so that you can get the drive shaft and the pinion flange back "in phase". Basically getting the heavy spots as far apart as you can.

If it's a balanced assembly you shouldn't have any issues, but there is always that chance.

To get it back "in phase" put it on and drive it, get up to at least 65. If it you don't feel any vibrations, great, you are good to go. If you do, take it home, mark it, unbolt it and turn it 180* at the axle end. Repeat the test-drive. If it's no better, turn it 90*. If that makes it better but not perfect go 45*. Basically keep doing that until you get it to a spot where it doesn't vibrate. It's a lot of work if you don't get it the first time, but it's well worth it.
