I toasted my stocker yanking it outta some mud that had me burried real deap. Took a fullsize bowtie and a Cherokee tugging at the same time to get me out. The stock one ended up looking like a nasty bannana by the end of the tugging.

So I took a trip to the metal shop to browse some C-channel. Really I wanted some 7" structural channel but they didn't carry any so I was forced to chose between 6 & 8". 6" is the perfect size for a liscense plate so I went with that. I boxed the ends and curved them inward to match the contour of the bottom of the bed.

I mounted it using three bolts per side(Two in shear and one in tension.) Hopefully that should be enough to do all the yanking I want. The C channel is just over 8lbs per feet. All together its at least 50lbs.

Progress pics as they come.

looks good.. beads look awesome as well.. how much did that piece cost you?

Thanks guys. I'm definitely maxing out my little Hobart 140. Max thickness recomended is 1/4". The inside of the corner on the C is definitely over 1/4 but its still welding alright with decent looking pentration.

My local metal shop requires a minimum of 20' otherwise they penalize by charging a bunch more. It was roughly $130 for 20' of it. Well, I coulda gotten just 10' but it would have been $90. Didn't make a lot of sense though because I'm gonna be making the front bumper out of this stuff as well.

nice work . . . clean welds . . . i can't wait to see what you'll come up with for the front bumper . . .

I can't wait to see what I come up with either. I'm torn between having the same metal shop roll me some 1/4" so it matches the contour of the front end perfectly or do a couple angles with the same 6" channel.

Latest pic. This thing now weighs about 80lbs with all the reinforcments and everything. The day I get rearended is going to be a very bad day for whoever was behind me. Fresh after its second coat of rustoleum. I can't decide between gloss or semi-gloss. Anyone?

Also, I can't decide if I'm going to get a small piece of diamond plate for the piece that goes under the tailgate. I'd like it to help hide the seam but I can't decide because I don't like the look of diamond plate all that much.
