Rear brakes lock up when cold only


I think you can pretty safely say it's the cables in that case! Doesn't take much for them to stick, especially if they salt the roads or if the parking brake isn't used often.

My old Astro van used to lock up something fierce... always in wet weather. I'd have to drive through the parking lot at work and stab the brakes really hard to make it unlock, then it'd be fine until the next day.

Possibly the cables are sticking but I'd have a look at the brake pedal self adjusting mechanism first. Release the cable tension entirely to the rears, pull on the cables from under the truck & visually note is all is moving as it should do.
