you need to put the spring perches on the top side of the axle. the ranger axle is spring over and the explorer axle is spring under. so you need to cut off the spring perches and weld them on top and cut off the shock tabs from the ranger axle and weld them on at a 45* angle or at a 90 and you wont have to get new shocks when you put in the explorer leaf springs. if you have any major questions just pm me

What are you talking about? You need to set you pinion angle before welding on the spring perches. Best way to do this I find is to set the axle housing on 2 jack stands, use an angle finder and set the perches at 0 degrees and then rotate the pinion till its pointing upwards at 6-7 degrees. Recheck to make sure the perches are at 0 and the pinion is at 6-7 degrees.

You can get an angle finder at most hardware stores for 10-15 bucks.

thats a lot more complicated than i thought but ill just take it one step at a time. Is there anyway to reset the leaf springs like getting them back to there original height? the ones on there are sagging a bit.

Do yourself a favor and grab the leaf springs from the explorer you are going to get the axle from. As long as it is a 4 door explorer.

Whats that do? Sorry about the hijack but This is new to me.

I am grabbing the ones out of the explorer but those are the ones sagging

Thank you for helping to support our economy....:headbang:

Totally unnecessary tho, I have 220,000 miles on my original 7.5 in my 89 B2. If it ain't broke....Run it!

thats what I'm saying....i've put my 7.5 through hell and back 4 times over. i've had it submerged in creek water, mud, sludge, on rocks, you name it and it has worked fine. i'm gonna change the front from that POS D28 when i get the chance.

now that i think about it, i guess that "POS D28" has been through the same hell as the 7.5 and is still ticking.

it's like the saying goes, if it aint broke, dont fix it....nobody said anything about upgrading tho

Lets see: $160 for the 1996 Explorer 8.8, $140 for ring&pinion, $260 for Aussie locker, $200 for new bearings throughout, $100 for perches, shock mounts, U-bolts & plates. So about $1.369 when all said and done.

any one else notice this doesnt even add up? :buttkick:
