Just acquired a 90 BII 4WD and wondering if anyone knows the following axle code tag number. I tried searching, purchased a factory spec book specific to this year and cannot find anything on this code:

9605 H
5L-7375 9M04

Based upon speed, rpm and tire height, I suspect this may be a 4.10 upgrade by PO from a 3.73 (which is what the door jamb axle ID code shows)

Thanks very much...look forward to your input!

well, the bottom row doesn't make any sense unless you saw the 3 as a 5, which would give it 3.73 gears with a limited slip in a 7.5" axle

to find out if it was swapped to 4.10's, take the cover off and turn the ring gear around until you find numbers, there should be a two groups of numbers, one the number of teeth on the pinion and the other the number of teeth on the ring gear, might also just give a 3.73 or 4.10 also.

Thanks Scott...yeah I'm blind and an old dude to boot. Gotta change the gear fluid anyway so I will pull the numbers on the ring and pinion. I may need to borrow my grandson's eyes...:D

hey, I'm here to help :)

hey, at least you have a limited slip... I'll be upgrading to having one here soon.

actually the bottom row makes perfect sense because the "5" isn't
a "5", but it isn't a "3" either, I'll bet you almost anything there's a "3"
hiding under the bolt head...

that "5" is an "S" because 7.5" limited slip axles are always marked "SL"
to indicate the "S-spring" liited slip as oppoesd to the Borg-Warner (auburn) unit used in '83, '84 and the first half of '85

Let me guess axle code "D4"?

ah, right, didn't think about that...

Sir Allan from PA wins the prize. Spot on with the tag details. Pulled the cover to drain and sure enough the tag information is exactly as you stated above. And a D4 axle code on the jamb door sticker! Now...how many fingers am I holding up? :D
By the by....what town are you in? I'm originally from Pittsburgh. You probably root for the Phillies???...which is good cuz the Pirates have been sucking for quite a few seasons :bawling:

Thanks again to all who helped me out!

If I actually sit down to watch a baseball game
(far more likely than my watching a football game)
it's invariably a Yankee game.

Personally I think phillies fans are one step below Mets fans on the
evolutionary ladder...

I'm in Northeast PA about 20miles north of Allentown
and originally from Northern NJ.

My saying "guess" was a rhetorical device of my writing style. :)
