anybody put rear facing lights on their truck w/o a light barroll bar etc. ? i bought a set of driving lights that i wanted to use as reverse/bed/aux lighting. i want them high enough so i can see the inside of my bed, can't put them on top for fear of low branches ripping them off. w/o any kind of mount for them i will need to mount them to the body and run wiring. but i need to make sure its water proof. i have some silicone calking we use at work that i used to seal the light housing but its starting to separate already, and i don't want water dripping down onto my sub 2 weeks later. so questions are.

1. best way to mount lights so they are safe and effective.
2. best way to run wires while tucked away and carrying over to
3. keeping my cab nice and dry :D

thanks in advanced guys. feel free to show pictures of your own set ups if you have them.

Headache rack... run the wires through a floor grommet and seal it up.

Yup you need some kind of rack unless you mount them to the bed sides or roof. Maybe something that will fit in the pockets but that will probably look goofy. You can try some kind of magnetic mount?

i think i might just go through the body for now. i don't have $$ for a headache rack right now, anything i have is going toward tires. i was hoping someone had a proven method of mounting them to the cab and a proper seal.

Any drilling you do wool be permanent so proceed with caution and make sure that's really where you want them...

wire them this way, that way they work withe backup lights OR a toggle switch.. so they can be back up lights or just aux lights.

the center box is a relay btw... lol

I don't have rear lighting... just STT, and strobes... but here's my headache rack:

i just mounted mine to the bumper for reverse lights, i plan on adding some small LEDs for the bed mounted under the bed rail and light on my headache rack will be 2 facing forward and 2 back to blind as$holes who tailgate me or refuse to turn off their highs lol. I currently use the 3rd brake light/bed light to see in my bed but like I said I like the idea of LEDs under the bed rails or maybe mounted under my toolbox...

thanks 4.0B2 for the diagram.
my truck doesn't have the bedlight option on my truck only red 3rd. and the reason i want these for my reverse is because my reverse lights do not come on in reverse. i know its just the switch on the trans, so ill tap into it when i replace the switch. i did switch the mounting plate and bolts on the aux lights so that i can mount them on the back of the cab and below the roof. just have to run wires.

I am putting mine the corners of my bumper. There is enough room to have use of your factory reverse light plus the aux ones. And enough room for the tailgate to open no problem.

I would vote to do your best to get a rack, or on the cornes of the bumper as sated above.

I think mounting them on bumper level would help u more if u want them for reverse lights

To answer your question, maybe try finding some rubber washer to help seal them up.

However, I would use what you have as reverse lights, and figure out another source for a bed light... OR look on craigslist for a cheap roll bar or headache rack, you could probably find something on there that would fit into your budget...

I put mine IN my bumper...

I really like what you did there...
