Realy odd problem!

1993 Ford Ranger. In the heat of summer the right front brake won't release after a few stops around town. Winter, no problem at all. Ever heard of this problem and what do I do to remedy it? It has been suggested that I replace the rubber brake line as it could be the inside of the line has separated and won't let the brake fluid return to the master cylinder. Sound reasonable to you all? Thanks
 
When was the last brake job. Replace both calipers and rotors and flex lines and then flush the old oil out.
 
I would make sure the caliper slides arent sticking then , I would replace the hoses. They are about 15$ at AZ.The hoses on the Rat looked terrible
 
Yes, brake lube(high temp lube) on the pad and caliper slides.

Pad could be getting hot and metal is expanding just enough to hold the pad from sliding back.

Yes, rubber brake line could act as a valve if it was broken inside but would probably leak as well, and temp shouldn't matter if that was the issue.

brake hoses

i have seen this many times where the line will not will not let the fluid return, before rebuilding the whole brake system try replacing the flex lines.

Agreed, most likely the front hoses.
Pretty cheap and easy fix.

As noted, replace the flex lines, and definitely flush the old brake fluid from your system. You'd be amazed at how much better the brakes feel with fresh fluid. Do the whole system. Of course, you're bound to run into other things that need to be replaced such as wheel cylinders, etc...

Heh,heh. I never replaced so many brakes parts at one time until I broke a brake line on the Rat. Parts are cheap ,but there's a gazillion of them. :D

like eveyone else has posted, when you assemble the brake caliper, I would lightlyyyyyyyyy grease the slides, summertime is hotter and things expand, including those slides, plus the dry dust that gets in there, its a mess without the mess.
 
I have had a collapsed brake line before that did exactly what you are describing. Looked fine on the outside but... I guess the higher pressure from the pedal and booster could push fluid through, but it couldn't come back on it's own to release.
 
To see if this is the problem you could get it to stick then open the bleeder on the caliper and see if it releases.
 
Correct answer: All of the above. Mech. said likely caused by sitting more than going (15841 mi.). Total cost of remedy was $57.00 including oil change and filters.
