Maybe if you had two and made a V12 :D :D

Sell it, but a 4.0 and dig up a supercharger kit.

BTW in your signature......it's telephone POLE, not poll.

That would be a good bet or a V-8 swap.

realistic power out of a 2.9? 140 hp and 170# torque is an achievable number. Its relatively cheap and easy to attain that number as well.

with that kind of milage, you don't want to go trying to get a lot of power out of it. its old and tired. baby it and you might have another 100k. beat on it like that and it will bite you in the balls.

you are much better off doing a swap if you are looking for 300hp. You could probably get that out of a 4.0, but I think it would be cheaper on a 5.0. and like I've been told, much nicer to the engine

a built 2.3 4 cyl

a built supra engine....... very cool slider imo, but will bring the hate

a built and puffed on 4.0(expensive)(and a grenade)

a mild stroker 302. @ 3500 setup. great option too but a 351 even slidier(new word yo?)

6.0 gm.

hemi

340...just to be cool.

if you 340 i will be your biggest fan:pray:...but the hate will be epic.:dunno:

if you notice...no 2.9 slider.....you can do it...but it will be a grenade...build 3-4 of em.

pulling any more power out of a 2.9 is a waste of time. There are very few performance parts out there for them. The 4.0 doesnt have very much of an aftermarket either but it may be possible to squeeze 180-200 hp out of a pushrod 4.0. its about the closest thing to a drop in swap that you can do. The only reason that I havent done it myself is I want to see how far the 2.9 in my truck will go. Its got 275k miles on it now, I'm going for 300k. I can get another 2.9 for dirt cheap as well. I like my 2.9 powered truck but its no speed demon. Going "fast" in it is about 55-60 mph. Its got 4.10 axle gears, its locked, and it has no sway bars, it wasn't built for speed, it was built to wheel.

300,000 miles only? I know you want it to go further then that HolyFord, aim high and take care of it even if you care for nothing else on the truck:headbang:

I don't think you're ever going to see 300HP, but with that being said there are still some really nice modification you can do to show the 2.9 Liter you love it; headers are a good start, followed by a mild cam and free floating rocker assembly
