I don't know why they're so damn picky about it as long as it passes their little test, as long as it has catalytic converters on it what do they care? they're still getting free money for it. & if they really cared about whats coming out of the tailpipe, they'd still be sticking the probe in it & measuring!! But that was eating into their proffits. Not just making sure you dont have an exhisting check engine light on. Its a racket. 90% of the counties dont waste their time. & theres a big push to end it completely. I do believe in keeping things running as efficiantly as possible but a slightly loose gas cap can set off a cel!

I know. The primary function of a vehicle I thought was to get you from point A to point B. Not anymore. If some sort of emissions thing is set off, they have programmed some of the new cars so the A/C will not work until you get it fixed. And we all know what happens when the emissions goes haywire on a newer diesel.

We are talking about vehicles that are approaching 20 years old. Some are newer some are older.
The point is at what age is it considered a classic. Are classic vehicles subject to the same rules as regular cars?

classic status varies by the state where the vehicle is registered.

I did some more research on this, it seems a emissions problem will not cut the A/C off, but if the ECM detects overheating or some other engine condition, it can and will cut the A/C off. The conspiracy theory didn't hold water, another internet legend as far as I can tell.

Yes & a ranger is a 2 ton, full frame truck!! Trucks are for towing & hauling. So why cant we have an engine in our truck thats capable of efficiantly accomplishing this? 302 ci for the win!!!

I wonder if anyone has tried this and has real world experience at a testing station. You may be right, but they could get picky and say the ranger never had this engine combination as original, so the v8 in a ranger combination was never certified as emissions legal so we are not passing it. Even though that complete drivetrain was certified in a Explorer, would they pass it in a Ranger?

Yes, back when RPS was still around a guy in California did this to his 2001 FX4 and had it for a number of years. I lost track of him when RPS when away. It looked just like a factory installation because he used all the Explorer parts in the swap.
