alright well i plan on taking my wheel beaings out an re packings them but hows the best way to get all the old grease out an off of the beaings so i can re pack them with all new grease?

i have always just wiped them off, then used one of these, it will force out the old grease as it pushes in the new. when you see clean grease coming out, you know you are good.

I used brake parts cleaner, messy but it got the job done. Just make sure to get all the old grease out so the parts cleaner will evaporate completly. I used an air hose but I would guess that you could do that then soak them in dish soap and hot water and it would clean out whatever is left if you don't have an air hose.

At work we wash them off in the solvent tank and then steam clean them, but brake clean and blwong them out will work just fine.

I pull the bearings out and leave them to soak for about 10 minutes in a pan of diesel fuel. Acts as a great solvent. Take a brush to get any extra grease off. Then take the bearings out and let them dry either just by air or or with a compressor if you're in a hurry. Repack and reinstall.
