my 2003 2.3l ranger has started consuming oil lately. burning it, not leaking it. at a rate of a quart every 300-400 miles. i wonder if i'm having problems with my "Swirl Dampers" as well. thank you all for the invaluable information on this website. also, 145,000 miles. i'm original owner since 12/28/2002.

Well if your IMRC system has crapped out you should notice large amounts of black smoke before you notice any oil burning, just like the OP in the other thread, so that wouldn't be my first suspect.

Bad valve seals maybe.
