I own a 2007 Ford Ranger XLT 2wd 3.0 manual transmission and was looking for something to re-calibrate my speedometer for tire size changes and maybe rear-end gear changes.

I asked my local Ford dealership if they could re-calibrate my speedometer and they replied they could not do it.

You need an SCT tuner, there run about $400. Do a google search for Bamachips.

Thanks for the reply 'Southern3.0'. I looked at Bama Chips, Superchips and SCT. I saw where some models allow for tire size inputs but didn't see where they would re-calibrate the speedometer.

your dealer is full of crap. they CAN recalibrate your speedometer for you..why they choose not to is beyond me.

I agree. Its a simple few keystrokes on their scanner. Maybe the idiot you talked to didn't understand the question or something. Paying an hour labor or whatever they would charge is cheaper than buying your own scanner... but they are handy to have.

edit: Ask 'em if they can recalibrate the PCM because you changed tire size/rear ratio, etc- they will understand that- and it will end up fixing the speedometer as a result.

The dealer's excuse was sump'tin about the law and liability issues in North Carolina.

I have checked out Bama Chips, SCT and Superchips. I contacted all three and only Superchips responded with their model #1815 that retails for $499. After waiting several days with no response, I followed up with another inquiry to Bama Chips and SCT.

There seems to be few performance options for the 3.0. I was hoping to find more choices for re-calibrating the speedometer.

It's because it uses a sensor at the wheel so gear changes are irrelevant, you only have to recalibrate for tires, not gears.

Good to know. I currently have 3:73 gears. So I can install 4:10 or 4:30 gears and the speedometer will be accurate without having to do a thing to it. WOW! I might go ahead and lower the gear ratio.
