Rattling while accelerating

Last question on this 92 I’m getting lol. 76?k original miles on kt so in sure most parts are original yet. While accelerating you hear a rattle ahile accelerating . It goes away a couple seconds after you let off the gas. Once in awhile it would do it briefly but go away (if you weren’t accelerating) seemed to go away if you clutch it too. Thinking ujoints?

Sounds like a labor knock. I used to get this in my 83 when I ran cheap low octane fuel. 93 octane or fuel treatment fixed mine.

Sounds almost like engine is pinging. It would be due to built up carbon in cylinders.



You can see if pinging is a problem by simply filling up with high octane premium gasoline. If rattle goes away then carbon build up is your problem..



Ford has a tsb on the 4.0l which is simply running a fuel / intake cleaner like seafoam.



Might take a few applications to see really good results.


I found that Lucas octane booster/fuel system cleaner seems to work well (the one in the red bottle)
