So here is my problem.. About a month ago i started hearing a rattle noise come from under my truck when i am drive and am reving at a lower rpm in a gear... i think it is either the tranny or cluth but im not sure and i dont have money to take it in to see... any thing come to mind?? :icon_surprised:

Could be a heat shield came loose on the exhaust. My 97's converter came apart and made a rattle at idle.

Well it doesnt do it at idle or when i rev my engine at idle only driving .... like when i shift up gettin on the freeway it like, does it until the rpms get higher in the gear and it is starting to do in in every gear...

well it doesn't take any money to take a look at the exhaust.heat shields rust away.I wish that I could hear the rattle myself. Then i would be able to narrow it down for you.Hopefully someone else on here will respond. There is a lot of members with good advice and knowledge of these trucks.

My Ranger does the same thing. It only does it at speed under heavy load or heavy accerlation. My dad says it is engine knock, but I have heard engine knock before on the little 2.3L. It took a lot to get it to knock (5th gear, WOT, climbing uphill at 35mph). High suspect would be the head sheild on the CAT. A few gaint hose clamps should solve the problem. I have a set of 4x hose clamps, just been too lazy to install them.

it isn't actually knock it is pinging from detonation in the cyliders happens alot on the 3.0Ls like trying to floor it at 1500 rpms. luckily n/a engines can deal with it alot cause of no boost but if thats not wahts happenin have fun with it.

Does sound kind of like a wire hanger dragging around?

mine makes a rattling noise too, but i thought it was something in my rear brakes.
