I have some dents and peeling on my rocker panels and I'm wanting to spray it with bed liner like the two tone on the fx4s after pulling the dents. I used some to spray a tool box i made a couple years ago and it held up good but it wasn't getting exposure like my rockers do. Just wondering if anyone has done this with a similar product, or if i should spend a little extra and use the kits like raptor or herculiner. The only problem i have with them is i dont have an air compressor, im saving for one though.

This is what i used on the tool box.

I'd say that it'll probably do you fine if you rough up the rocker with some 400+ grit first and make sure its super clean. 2 maybe 3 coats. Does it call for a primer?

Try it... maybe I'll do mine if yours comes out well.

i would use it if i wanted to.

i am always smashing and scraping them so i just brush em off and rattle can black on them periodically. if i would have done it more often they might not be rotted off now:icon_confused:

I did mine like that about 8 years ago...rockers are still solid but I've only actually driven it for about 3 years.

More important than the outside of the rockers is the inside. I had mine sand blasted and then coated them with rocker guard. The underside of the cab where there is still factory coating is in need of some urgent work that I hope to get to when I pull the cab...soon as I can at this point.

Go for it! Worst case you get to scuff it again when you buy a different bed liner kit.

Something that you should be aware of is the flick can stuff can be dissolved (it is not activated) so spilling fuel or similar on it will discolor and distort. The bed liner kits get activate with hardener to resist chemicals.

I did part of my truck that sees lots of rock action from gravel roads. Used rustoleum.

Its starting to get banged up nicely. I didn't prep very well though. Probably revisit it this summer possibly.

I did the front bumper on my work truck with the rattle can bedliner. It held up good at first but then it started chipping. It was easy to touch up but when I do the lower body line on the truck I'm going to use a bedliner kit and a roller (most likely). A thicker application should be less prone to chipping with a little prep work.

I know a few people who used the rattle can and it did not last, but they are going out and tearing up their rides anyways. So who cares? Nothing stays cherry, right? Will rock guards help you out? I know the roll on bed liners last pretty good. The spray on at the shops works the best since I have seen so many rides that have it on body panels and they have held up really well. But…that cost some coin!!!!

Ok, so i will be starting this tomorrow... Hopefully... Tried today but stuff came up. Im also going to be doing my grill because i painted it last year but did not prep and its chipping. Ill post pics when im done, hopefully friday night.

Got the truck sprayed today I used two coats of rocker guard then two of the bed liner. I even got my girlfriend to help me with the sanding and taping :D I like how it turned out, now to see how long it lasts.

Exhaust is hanging low because i had to remove my "hanger" to get at part of the panel.

Yep, looks good...mine looked sorta like that at one time when I first did it...might do the new bed and doors like that too...
