Rash of thefts where I live.

yould be surprised how much a "NRA member" sticker will prevent theft. i literally watched a guy look in my bed for anything to steal, then look inside, than looked at my back window and walked away.... of course i was watching out my window with a 12g pump in onehand and cell phone with 911 on speed dial in the other.

our illustrious governor

is a major F**Ktard and I sincerly hope that now that his political career is effectively over in PA, that he returns to Philly where the mob shoot him since he is now effectively useless to them.

I forgot about that one. An NRA sticker is very good theft deterent. No thief wants to mess with a crazy guy with a bunch of guns.

something a truck driver told me when he was waiting for his trailer to be loaded at my last job...

Take an extension cord and cut off the female end. strip back the wires 3 inches and remove the radiator cap and put the wires several inches into the radiator. plug the other end into a non GFI protected outlet. be sure to rout the cord in such a way that it is not noticed...

Wait.

When you hear the scream of the first poor sucker that touched the vehicle, go out with the shotgun.

quickly unplug the extension cord and reel it up (incase intruder wants to get all legal on you).."he got zapped? no kidding! and hey, what was he doing messing around w/ my truck?!

haha good one, for those who dont know, the rubber tires act as insulators, a thief acts as a path to the earth, completing the circuit. i saw a circuit that consisted of a few transistors that could be used to set off an alarm when someone touches the car. gona have to build one!

I've heard versions of that sort of thing several times now....

I've also heard that it can have a negative effect on the sensitive electronics most newer vehicles have.

One other thing worth noting is that voltage doesn't kill, amps do. A typical electric outlet runs 15-20 amps. ONE amp is enough to stop your heart. An electrical shock also contracts your muscles, thus if you would do this on say an older F-150 and someone wraps their hand around the metal door handle they will not be able to let go (I know somebody is probably thinking "cool, then they can't get away," but think about that for a minute - 15-20 amps going through someone who can't let go - it has a good chance of killing them and then you'll have some explaining to do to the police).

No, I would not recommend trying that one.

BTW, I would be able to walk up and touch the vehicle without getting hurt - Electrical Hazard boots FTW!

Looks like everything being taken are pickups and you have an Explorer. Maybe that's a plus.

ROFL at the last few posts!! Come back outside to find a pile of bodies around your truck. And I'd have to feel bad for the first dog that decides to piss on the wheels.

As for being worried about killing them....there've been people on here that have suggested shotguns and the like....and you're worried about a little current?? lol. Just sayin.

Either way, seems that the kids have the thefts out of their system for the time being. Haven't heard any new ones from the cops lately.

God help them if I catch them though....

Yep, my '97 f-150 work truck was stolen this morning. The thieves must of jimmied the door lock as there is no glass on the ground, but parts of my dash are. My keys are in my hand and I'm sure I locked the door on the truck last night. Plus all the tools I had stored back there... probably C$1500.00 of tools or more. And I can't remember the license plate number to give to the cops. It's not written anywhere I can think of, the insurance agent doesn't have the #, and the registry office won't give it over the phone. And I don't have an insured vehicle to drive right now, it's at my shop, 20 miles on the opposite side of the city. One thing I learned is to keep a copy of the reg. and plate number at home so the cops can keep an eye out sooner.

Well, the law would see that setup as premeditation and you'd get thrown under the jail for a VERY long time.

Picking up a shotgun and confronting someone would not net nearly the problem with the law... unless you just walked out there and shot them in the back or the back of the head.

I heard from my insurance adjuster today and I must admit to being pleasantly surprised. The appraiser came by Monday, and today [Friday] the adjuster told me that repairs were estimated at ~C$4500.00. The adjuster also told me the appraised value of my truck was ~C$2,800.00 - C$3,300.00. The buy back is C$300.00. So I'm going to get a $C3,000.00 check and be able to keep my truck to repair or use for parts. Apparently the inspection is a hard one, the same as a salvage inspection, so having done that before, I'll be using this truck as parts. Which is what I bought it for originally :D The cruise control and transmission will be going into my other f-150 with a pooched trans.
PS Don't tell anyone but I only paid C$600.00 for the truck to begin with :icon_rofl:.

Richard

Actually, the adjuster asked what I paid for the truck and I told her the truth. For insurance purposes, it doesn't matter what I pay for something, it's what it costs to replace it.

It also gives them a good chance that there will be a gun inside your rig to steal...

i had "wired" up a jeep CJ-7 many years ago after someone got into it, 2 days later, middle of the night there was one he!! of a dog yelp from outside, yep, a dog (not mine) peed on the chrome rims. as far as a human getting killed, yeah, its possible, but you could always have a block heater hooked up in such a manner that it does more than be a block heater.
