Rash of thefts where I live.

Except he has a 99 Explorer :thefinger:

Interesting that they would have put one in there from the factory...:icon_thumby:

It's designed to trip automatically in the case of an accident or similar situation so that your vehicle doesn't end up catching fire and look like the pickup '99 EB Explorer posted.

Ooooh... Yeah, that makes sense. I think most vehicles have that don't they?

Yeah...it's the inertia switch, and it's incredibly helpful when it's time to change the fuel filter. Just pop the switch with a screw driver and start the truck. VOILA! the fuel lines are now empty! lol

Well a "99 Explorer" as you put it would very much fall into the category of "a Ford from the mid 80s onward" so :thefinger::thefinger::icon_cheers:

Most people just call it an "inertia switch" but if you trip it it would function similarly. Just not keyed.

And not all vehicles have them. Not in the form that Ford's do anyway. GM and Chrysler have methods of cutting fuel on a lot of cars, but they both started later, and they don't always use a switch like we have. Sometimes it's a PCM strategy related to the crash sensors.

Bahahahahahha fail... I didn't see the "on" part of the original post, I just read the "Mid 80's" Part, :icon_rofl::icon_twisted::shok:

I have to say I don't care much for criminals. PA voted in favor of the Castle Doctrine but our illustrious governor vetoed it. If more states had things like that, there might be a little less crime.

Back in college the one year there was a rash of break-ins, cars messed with, and people getting roughed up when they were out after dark. Someone I knew started spreading some pretty crazy and far fetched rumors about me (think along the lines of crazy psycho redneck hillbilly with lots of guns and embellish anything you can think up with the thoughts of the story teller being drunk, high or both). Wasn't true, but I never made a real effort to deny the rumors. Those who knew me knew it wasn't really true and that was enough for me. Nobody messed with my stuff. My roommate, however, caught someone trying to steal his car the one day, lol.

I have methods of disabling my trucks, but I'm not about to discuss them on an open forum. Really, there are tons of ways to easily disable a vehicle when you think about it, especially if you know how to do some electrical wiring.

Oh, and that whole steering wheel gizmo (the "Club" system) is about worthless. I could defeat one in about 30 seconds if I wanted to (not that I ever had the need). Maybe a minute if it's one of the ones that has a forked end so it will lock in better. It may be a hardened steel rod that resists cutting, but it's still fastened to a largely rubber and plastic steering wheel and it still uses a simple tumbler lock. About all it's good for is to keep honest people honest. If someone really wants something, the best you can do is slow them down - hopefully long enough to put some buckshot in their pants.

keep guns near and wire up a kill switch. lets hope they get shot in the nuts to take em out of the gene pool

I remember back when "The Club" was the needed thing, they show on the "Today" show how a crook can jump in, take a hack saw to the wheel, and pry "The Club" out of the way, the next best thing was "The Club" that locked your brakes in the "up" position to where you couldn't press the brake on.

On a RVB, the best thing I found was to just unplug the fuel harness from the main harness, it has always worked for me.

My focus was stolen friday morning and it was the one of three cars stolen in two days. 7 brake ins all week too. All cars were recovered the other two was used to on play on the snow and ice and used to drag race and as bumper cars. But as far as I know the cop said ours was just a joy ride, but how hard was it driven?? It still under going forensic analysis.

That may be so, however, the average car thief won't bother to steal a vehicle with any sort of "deterrent" on it, because it won't be worth their time, its easier for them to keep moving on to another vehicle.

Some thieves will trash the ride if they can't steal it.

i had my very first ranger stolen from me 4 months after i bought it, i report the truck stolen but they didnt seem interested, a week later cruisin around the woods i see a couple drunk pineys with a fire sittin on the tailgate of a ranger...........my ranger.....i called the police to inform them of where my vehicle was and they told me that "it wasnt a priority"

from then on i havent trusted the law todo anything around here....lets just say tweedle dee and tweedle dum got sweet justice , straped to a large pine and covered in maple syrup lol.....my stuff hasnt so much as even been looked at funny since

theres a reason the mob comes out here to hide the bodies LOL

Side note: I hate those stupid inertia switches. When ever my friend would ride with me(who also had a ranger) would sit there and kick my floorboard until he would hit my switch which would shut of my truck while driving down the road... He had his inertia switch bypassed so I could never do it to him...
