Raptor vs Lightning

The first gen Raptor wore the SVT badge, but Ford quietly folded SVT into 'Ford Performance' around 2014.

And I am still bummed about losing Ford Racing too.

I liked it better than "Ford Performance" :annoyed:

Back before my time it was "Ford Motorsports" so it isn't like the first time they have changed it though.

Before SVT it was SVO.

You kids complaining about '90s should have been through the late 70s/early 80s with the 140 hp 302 Mustang II (with 3.18 gears). At least '60s performance parts could still be found to 'fix' the problem, because there was nothing official from Ford for performance.

Chevrolet has 5 special editions of Silverado, they have the ZR-2 for Colorado; Surely, Ford can have both a Raptor and a Lightning/Tremor - Score International and Camping World NASCAR Truck series both seem to survive.

It's one part of Colorado that has kept me from buying - 4x2 is same height as 4x4. And there are no drop spindle solutions (Dropping by shorter stiffer springs is poor man's solution).

I came real close to buying a Tremor - not fitting into garage was problem. A Tremor Ranger would fit just right! We'll take the 2.7 Ecoboost in both to spread out some development cost.

The designer of the mustang approached ford first, they declined and the designer took their plans to chevy. thats how I herd the camaro was born. I'm no history buff but I've heard this story more than once so I took it as truth. From what I remember the designer was an Asian car designer that had the idea to make a small fast coupe, and thought the Ford Futura or Falcon,I don't remember, had the right platform for it, but they passed. Now I'm sure somebody will be glad to give me a history lesson on this ... If it is wrong.

Lee Iacoca was the originator of the Mustang idea.

The story you are thinking of is sort of right, but in the wrong decade and with the wrong vehicle. In the 70s Iacoca pitched Ford and idea that was basically the minivan, but it was to have a 460 as an engine option. They rejected it, fired Lee, and a few years later we got the Dodge Caravan.

Ford captured a higher up of the Camaro team and he came up with the 71-73 style mustang... which kinda resembles the Camaro.

Camaro answered the Mustang. The first Mustangs are referred to as 64 and a half’s because they did tweak things a little later but are still 1965 model year.

Yeah, "tweaked" isn't really the right word. There are a number of critical wiring and connector differences, along with some noticeable, if not important, differences in the body and electrical options. It is just enough to make working on a 64.5 car with 65 wiring diagrams a migraine-inducing feat.

yeah. wow.

:icon_surprised:

quoted for self explanation of this thread.

Ok. Apparently i was wrong with the Mustang story. Let's move on. Back to getting the Lightning back into production.

its relevant.

its also epa. the escort saved the mustang in the 80's....the probe was actually supposed to be the next mustang....

we ended up with the pos joke mod 4.6 because of the fears the epa did to the fawk clowns at ford during that era....

dont get me wrong because the 4.6 was cleaner and all that....a technological marvel to say the least. but i hate it.

the lightening may come back....it will not outsell or out profit a raptor at this time so it is how things got where they are....

and at the end of it all....

2wd trucks are gay

awd on the other hand..... so awd lightening...

pretty sure thats gonna happen eventually...even if its a hybrid.

No, 2wd with 4" lift kits is ghu.... dumb

Lots of folks that run in the desert would disagree.

I'm talking about the pavement pounders with lights on their suspension. Posing like an off reader but never leaving the city limits.

Hell, I disagree with him about 2wd being gay. I plan on keeping mine 2wd. Or awd depending on donor, lol

Plenty of 4x4's that meet that criteria too.

well....gay is a bad descriptor.

a hot rod pickup with massive power on cold road can be quite useless in shit weather. though living in florida iguess 2wd is just fine .

mid engine 2wd truck could be interesting though.

more importantly....

its simplicity of this formula.

YOU....can do a much better job of building a high performance pickup then ford ever will for much less money.

most people are just stupid sheep and dont understand that. going to full race mustang auto x theres room for oem superiority in cost effective for some.

Yes but at least they have 4wd option. No lie. I've had my 2wd with bad tires stuck on flat ground in wet grass. That's the most humiliating thing in the world. A lawn mower pulled me to dry land.:icon_rofl:
