Raptor vs Lightning

They didn't know there was a market for the mustang, they passed on it, Chevy did not and got the Camaro first.

Who is they?? Mustangs came out a few years before camaro did in the 60's if that is what you are getting at.

Mustang came out in early 1964 as a 1965 model. Dunno when the Camaro came out but it was as a '67.

Actually the Mustang was supposed to be a small sporty car to counter the Corvair Monza. It countered and crushed it...

The designer of the mustang approached ford first, they declined and the designer took their plans to chevy. thats how I herd the camaro was born. I'm no history buff but I've heard this story more than once so I took it as truth. From what I remember the designer was an Asian car designer that had the idea to make a small fast coupe, and thought the Ford Futura or Falcon,I don't remember, had the right platform for it, but they passed. Now I'm sure somebody will be glad to give me a history lesson on this ... If it is wrong.

A quick search suggests that the story has no connection to reality whatsoever.

First Mustang to come out was the 1964 1/2...it was a mid-year release.

Ok like I said I'm no history buff. I grew up in The 90's. We didn't have any good sports cars to be proud of so that's why I'm a muscle car idiot. But this has little to do with Lightning vs. Raptor. I know I mentioned the Mustang thing first and I am in the process of removing my foot from my mouth.

Ford captured a higher up of the Camaro team and he came up with the 71-73 style mustang... which kinda resembles the Camaro.

Camaro answered the Mustang. The first Mustangs are referred to as 64 and a half’s because they did tweak things a little later but are still 1965 model year.

Actually, the first Mustang was cleverly disguised as the Falcon.

DEARBORN, Mich. – August 13, 2003 – Today, the Ford SVT F-150 Lightning was certified as the “World’s Fastest Production Pickup Truck” by Guinness World Records, Ltd. after reaching 147 miles per hour at Ford’s test track. Since the truck’s introduction in 1999, the supercharged SVT Lightning has been unofficially called the world’s fastest pickup by numerous media outlets. Now it’s a matter of official record.

I would like to see Ford bring back the lightning. To me, anything that says Roush or Shelby isn't really a 'production' pickup. It's something that's been sent out to a performance shop for upgrades, and then had the price jacked up.

It would be cool to see a true off the assembly line hot rod pickup.

It is strange that they haven't made some race type trucks. Then again, Dodge stopped the SRT-10 in 2006 I believe. Haven't really seen much other standard cab, big horse power trucks that are factory made. Its been over a decade so it should be about time for them to start rolling out.

Me too, the internet has shown me that several dealers across America offer "Lightening" like packages, so there IS still a market for fast trucks. Besides NASTRUCK racing proves that we want to go fast in a single cab truck.
And I agree that Rousch, Shelby, And Saleen are NOT "SVT"

I remember the Chevy 454SS Pick-Up, that thing was a BEAST, then the Nite, then Lightening, Chevy's Silverado SS, and the SRT-10 Ram. Chevy also did the Typhoon / Cyclone thing and the best ford could do with that was a Ranger Splash SC with 4.0 because the Ranger GT was misnamed af because it was a just ranger with a ground effects kit.

SVT is no more...

SVT is no more...

I thought the Raptor was "SVT" When did this happen? :bawling:
Is that why they call the Mustang Cobra a Shelby gt350 now:icon_confused:?
Who is going to make Special Vehicles for Ford Now.:icon_bounceblue:
OH I get it. NONE of Fords vehicles will be special anymore. :dunno:
Whah Whah

The first gen Raptor wore the SVT badge, but Ford quietly folded SVT into 'Ford Performance' around 2014.
