Ranger's gone

Are you one of those guys that wears full leathers and a full face helmet. my Fiance always wounders why someone would dress like that in the hot weather, and I tell her they'd rather protect them self from a wreck then worrie about sweating ther ass off.

leather helps u keep your body humidity. riding for long periods with the dry wind blowing u will dehiderate your body. and since leather is even waterproof that means no dry air hitting your body.

Too poor to afford full leather. But I am required to wear a full suit of clothing when riding on a military base. So its a full helmet, long sleeve shirt, pants, over the ankle boots, saftey goggles, and gloves. Also a safety reflective vest when riding at night (which is when I go to work). It doesn't matter what you wear when the humidity and temps are high. Winter time is the best time when I like to ride. Some people think I'm nuts for riding in 10*F weather. But it is easier to dress up in the winter then to dress down for the summer.

I hear that. I know a all year long harley rider he'll even ride with a foot of snow on the ground!

What transmission did ford use as a benchmark for their new diesel (and 6.2)??? Any one recall???
hold it right there GM boy. the new 6R140 has NOTHING to do with the allison 1000 other than it suprasses it in all areas. basically the only good thing that says for GM is that ford acknowledges that its better than the dodge automatic. and that sure doesnt say much. of course ford is going to test it's product against the competition, they'd be foolish not to.

the upcoming (2011) allison 1000 series is rated at around 850ft.lbs max. the new ford trans is rated at a whopping 1400ft.lbs max. gm isn't even close to being in the same league as that. not to mention at 150000 mile service interval on the 6r140. no comparison dude.

oh and lets not forget that current allison 1000's cant even hold together behind a duramax with a mild tune. all while the the 5r110's are proving themselves to be bulletproof. Any one recall???

its funny how people expect an orgasmic transmission just because it says "ALLISON" on it, and they use allisons in big trucks so they must be good!

I missed something along the way hear of this agrument but, lets not forget the wimpy IFS that won't hold together behind a modded Duramax either.

I'm really kind of "meh" on the Allison Trans. I drove one in an International 4200 (backing a DT466) for a sheet metal company a few years back. Yeah, it was great driving in Boston, but it couldn't climb hills worth squat!

Gimmie an Eaton 6-speed syncro or a EF 8 or 10 speed any day over an Aliison! Even in traffic I'd take the sticks!

And the Ranger is back

I finally got my Ranger back after all the work the collision center did. But, there are some pro's and con's.

Pro's:
1.) Awasome work, pulled every dent, can't notice that it every happened.
2.) Worked with my insurance, so less trouble for me
3.) Getting extra work done at my expense and it is what I requested (replacing the driver's window bottom weather strip, since they replaced the passenger's side already).

Con's:
1.) Someone bent my e-brake handle. It was already broke, but somebody bent my fix to the missing handle
2.) Left my windows up on the hottest of days (100*F). So now my starting to wrinkle tint is now fully wrinkled. But I was planning to have the windows re-tinted anyways since it was starting to go.
3.) Somebody adjust every seat and mirror on my Ranger.
4.) This goes with #2. My shifter knob is no longer stuck on the floor stick. Either A. Somebody grabbed the shifter knob and twisted, or/& B. The extreme heat build-up in the cab de-glued the knob. Either way, that knob never twisted while on the stick.
5.) Not too sure what it is yet. But I have a knock feeling coming from the driver's front tire area. I can feel it in the steering wheel and hear it. I suspect (hopefully) that my shock's valve may be sticking. Since the shocks are impact senseing and will stiffen up in rough terrain. Not being driven + extreme heat may have caused this. I will give it a little drive time before I start tearing things apart to find the problem.

Allison transmissions suck in big trucks too. The only thing they have going for them is that the general public doesn't know that.

+1. Once you learn to float up and down, you'll never want an auto again unless you are in the heaviest of traffic. I only liked the auto shift Eatons, which are better than Allisons, in DFW and Atlanta.

and the fact the injectors go out on a D-Max more than any other diesel out there.

:agree::sorrysign: Mybad so.... sounds like the ranger came along nicely have any new pics maybe some before and after?

I don't have any good photos of the actually damage. But I can definetly say that my Ranger is one lucky SOB. This hail storm caused millions of dollars in damages to vehicles. Some of those vehicles were left with no windows and dents like someone took a ball hammer to them.

May 1, 2008; The start of my damages. Hail stones were of solid golf balls size with a mix of solid baseball size.

May 10, 2010; Second hail storm damage. Hail stones were of soft hardness golf ball, baseball, and softball size. In some areas, they were the size of grapefruit.

Grapefruit size hail damage.

The Ranger looks good now after the dents have been pulled. Just like the day when I bought it. Hopefully, it will stay that way. I had a good run on avoiding hail damages from 2003 till 2008. And then skipped 2009, only to get hit again on 2010. So far, I have been lucky to miss the May 3, 1999 F5 tornado, May 8, 2001 F2 tornado and May 10, 2010 F2 tornado. Which those three came within a 1 mile of my house. I predict one year, I won't be so lucky with them coming so close each year.
