Good day all,

Well this morning the Ranger wouldnt start. The truck has never given me this problem before so as far as I know, there is no preexisting problem. So the engine spins, but I am getting no start. I smell gas, so Im pretty sure the fuel pump is working. I thought it might be the coil but I tested that and it tested out fine. I thought maybe the fuel pump cut off switch might be bad but I looked under the dash and the red button was already pushed in. What else could it be?:icon_confused:

PS - The truck is a five speed if that matters.

check your plugs,if worn they can splash foul and it will not start

Checked them, they are still good. I checked the cap/rotor all good. Wires good. I changed all of those probably about a year or two ago. Plus this isnt a problem thats been happening...this just started this morning. I drove the truck last night and all seemed well...this morning, nothing.

Will it start with starting fluid?

Are you getting spark to the plugs?

Few things to check will point you in the right direction

I havent tried the starting fluid yet.

I measured the voltage coming from a plug wire and it read 1800v. Does that sound about right?

Thanks for the reply.

Fixed?

Well I went to the truck with some starter fluid and wadda ya know, the damn thing fires right up:yahoo:. So I have absolutely no idea why it did what it did, either way its fixed...sort of. I have another ailment that needs to be looked after. The truck once in a while, when I go to start it, does nothing. I turn the ignition and nothing, the lights are all there, but no start. I let the truck sit for a second or two, try it again and the truck starts up. I've taken out the starter and have had it tested at Checkers/Autozone and it checks out good...what gives?

Thanks again for the replies.:icon_thumby:

Sounds like bad battery connections or bad cables themselves.

No, no bad battery cables. A few years back I had all new battery cables made up for the Ranger. Today the battery connections and cables look brand new.

Thanks

sounds like your ignition switch, mounted on the steering collum under the dash.contacts inside the slide switch probally worn out,may want try unplugging and put a little contact grease on the plug pins and plug it back in.
