So I just got back from a small ride.
Okey On my 97 3.0 you can drive it for a wile and than it don't want to start back? Im thinkin the fule pump may be on it's way out but I can still hear it run. Any ideals on this?

If you shut it off, and try to restart it right after, does it still start? Or does it take a minute to not want to start? And does it eventually start after a bit of cranking?

I had an issue where my Mustang wouldn't want to start after it sat for 5 minutes or so unless I cranked on the starter for 10-15 seconds. It would start and spit and sputter for a 30 seconds or so and then run fine. My problem proved to be a bad fuel pressure regulator. The diaphragm inside was leaking fuel into the vacuum hose and "flooding" the engine. To diagnose the problem, I pulled the FP regulator hose and watched the gas come out of the regulator vacuum port the longer it sat, until it eventually purged all of the pressurized fuel out.

If it starts up right after you turn it off then after it sits a bit it wont start it could be a dirty IAC idle air control on the throttle body. In that case after it sits the fuel vapors in the manifold need air and if the IAC valve is dirty it is not letting enough air in to ignite the fuel. Did you try pushing down a little on the throttle as you crank on it if it starts get a gasket for the throttle body and pull it off and clean it thoroughly after you pull the IAC off. Carb cleaner works good but acetone is cheaper. Be sure and pull the TPS throttle position sensor off also so you dont damage it with the cleaner. Put a new PCV valve on it at the same time it is usually the gasses from the engine feeding back thru the vent tube that gums up the throttle body. Let us know what you find out.

Okey, i'll try these things after class, But sometimes you can drive it and it will start right back up sometimes you have to crank it for a bit than it stumbles than runs like a champ.

Yea clean the throttle body and IAC good along with the throttle plate and bore. You can do it while it is still in but if you pull the throttle body get the gasket first to put it back together with. That is the cheapest first step let us know GL

If that dont work the IAC is probably going bad

Sure sounds like the fuel pressure regulator to me.

Jus got home from school. Goin to go out and try a few things in a bit. But dumb qustion....what is the iac?

Idle air control there are two things on the throttle body with wires the throttle position sensor tells the computer where the butterfly is open or closed when closed the intake air control is opened or closed by the computer depending on rpm to control the idle speed it is a motor with a plunger that goes in and out and lets the air bypass the butterfly.

Thanks I found it but did't get the chance to clean it....But I did drive it today (2 miles) and when I shut it off it fired up fine. Goin try and get some gas for it and drive it for a wile tomarrow and see if it does it again..

That is the oklohoma tune up park it in the shade and rev it up :-) gas helps alot
Just kidding if there is alot of black crud it is from excessive blowby, replaceing the pcv will possibly stop it if your worried about it do a compression test and check the vacuum pressure will tell you the health of the engine. normally cleaning it and the hole it fits in along with the butterfly and bore will solve the problem but do get a new PCV.
