Hello all.
Im building a PreRunner 95 B2300 and id like to do a motor swap. Iv always been into import cars and would like to do something different with the ole B2300, (IE SR20DET). I know any project is possible, but i did some research and have heard a lot of people thinking of doing the swap. Iv seen the 2J project, but would be too much motor for my build. I have had a 240 with a Black top SR and was a pretty fun car. Iv also owned a JDM Toyota Sorer (with a 2J) and currently my DD is a 96 Skyline R33 GTS. Im very capable of this swap but my main question is, has anyone actually been successful in this (SR20DET) swap?

Thanks for the future info.

where the hell did you find a skyline and why in the world are you daily driving it?

They were not hard to get about 3 years ago if you had the money, not there about impossible to import. Iv had 2 cars imported and DOT legal. Why not drive the R33 every day......

you anywhere near knoxville? id love to just sit and stare at that car for a couple days.

There's nothing really special about them....being on the Left Coast they are plentiful in the area and I know a couple people that import them and install all the DOT legal parts...even in this 'bad economy' they are importing about 2/week.

The similar, but much easier route would be to use a 2.3 turbo inline 4 out of a ford turbo car from the 80's. They are dang strong little engines and put up with boost extremely well. Parts are numerous and cheap. These little things have been known to push 400-500 HP with the stock crank and pistons still in place. The best part is that it's the same engine block your truck currently has and you can re-use your computer and sensors and just get them tuned for the turbo. Or you could swap in the electronics from the donor car (usually done on 83-94 rangers, before aftermarket tuning support became available with EEC-V in 1995). It bolts up to the stock transmission and everything.

You can do an intercooled, 300 HP swap for less than $1000 if you go this route. The only reason I see for the SR20DET swap is just to be different. You are going to go thru a lot more work, time, and money with a transmission, wiring, etc going that route.
