I am replaceing the Mazda M50D-R1 transmission in my 97 Ranger with another good (hopefully) used one. My Ranger and the donor are both 97s with the 2.3 engine. The parts tag on the transmissions have different numbers. Anything I need to know here? Anybody know how to decode the numbers. Thanks for your help! Craig.

You should be fine. M5OD-R1 in both trucks same year....OK.

The codes on the trans relate to when the transmission was made and
can indicate what running changes may have been made.

But unless one is either a much older trans....

the trans you are pulling SHOULD be an "F5"

If the "new" one you are getitng is an "F8" it's an improvement.

Do remember that just because the code says one thing doesn't make it so.
there is no telling if someone has been inside the trans before.
