I could use some transmission knowledge from you guys.
I have a 1997 Ranger, 4.0L, 2wd, with the 5R55E transmission. The origional trans went out so I found one out of a 2001 Ranger, same
5R55E. The swap went good, but as I started hooking up the harness I realize I am missing a plug on the new one. The new trans doesn't have the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) on the tail housing like the 97 trans did. I found that the newer trucks have the VSS on the rearend. What should I do?
Can I get a tone ring for the driveshaft and mount a remote sensor? Will this work with my computer?
I was planning on swapping in a newer 8.8 rearend out of an Explorer, will that have the VSS on the rearend? Will that work with my Computer?
Are there any other ways to have the same origional type of gear driven VSS installed into rearend?
Any help would be appreciated. I've called numerous shops around San Bernardino/Riverside area and haven't received much help.
Thanks.
