I could use some transmission knowledge from you guys.

I have a 1997 Ranger, 4.0L, 2wd, with the 5R55E transmission. The origional trans went out so I found one out of a 2001 Ranger, same
5R55E. The swap went good, but as I started hooking up the harness I realize I am missing a plug on the new one. The new trans doesn't have the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) on the tail housing like the 97 trans did. I found that the newer trucks have the VSS on the rearend. What should I do?

Can I get a tone ring for the driveshaft and mount a remote sensor? Will this work with my computer?

I was planning on swapping in a newer 8.8 rearend out of an Explorer, will that have the VSS on the rearend? Will that work with my Computer?

Are there any other ways to have the same origional type of gear driven VSS installed into rearend?

Any help would be appreciated. I've called numerous shops around San Bernardino/Riverside area and haven't received much help.

Thanks.

Oh yeah, the speedometer and mileage don't currently work due to this, it will shift, but it likes to stall out if coasting or coming to a stop.

Thanks for any help.

i dont know about the dif rearend but if you can get the speed sensor to connect to your harness from the rearend you will just have to calibrate it and you will be fine. the stall out and such is computer controlled the internals or computer calibration for that tranny may be dif from dif yrs, your best bet is to get a tranny from the same yr vehicle and swap it however.

How do I go about getting the correct sensor for the rearend? There is one on there already for the ABS speed sensor. Do I get one that will replace that and just wire both the VSS and ABS Sensor into it?

Thanks.
