Ranger STX 1994 3.0 manual transmission, What should the temperature gauge run on a normal or strenuous regular driving conditions? I live in the mountains, It runs between just over a quarter up to a third of the way and then when I turn it off and then start it back up after 15 minutes or so, It goes up to over halfway. Is this normal? I’m not familiar with this engine and its temperature ranges. Thank you, James.

I forgot to mention that it runs between 1/4 on cold idle and goes out to about 1/3 but it never gets above halfway, Unless I have stop somewhere and turn it off and then start it back up and then it’s up to almost 2/3 of the way but then it cools back down slowly but surely. Thank you for any input

First of all... welcome to TRS.

I would have to say when you see the temp gauge climb after shutting off the engine... heat soak. Coolant and airflow stop and what you're seeing is the engine itself dissipating the heat to the cooler coolant. Which is no longer being circulating and being cooled. Most likely normal.

I don't think these factory gauges are overly accurate or super consistent between vehicles. They do give you a general idea though. You basically find the normal range for your vehicle and just pay attention to when it goes out of that normal range.

You may want to post this same question in the specific forums. This forum is just for introducing yourself and sharing a picture of your truck... don't be shy... we like them all.
