Ranger stuck in park

i have a 2001 ranger edge with auto trans. the truck starts fine but wont shift out of park after its started. ive been turning key and shifting to neutral then starting. what tests can i do to figure out if it is the neutral safety switch? i tried listening for it and dont hear anything. also if anybody has a picture of the neutral safety switch that would be awesome thanks.

check to see if your brake lights are working. if not check the fuse for the brake lights

brake lights are working. cruise control buttons light up but dont work. im not sure if the problem is related or not. the fuses all look good. from what ive read i believe its fuse 10 and its good. any other suggestions? thanks

ok after a bunch of research i think it is the brake interlock switch that is attached to the brake pedal. the reason why i think this is because it wont shift out of park, the inside lamp does not work and the 3rd brake light on the cab doesnt work. do you think i am right? i am planning on buying the switch tomorrow

same thing happend to me. chang the brake interlock its about 25.00 from ford and veary easy to chang.

dang i changed the switch and no luck. i pulled every fuse out and checked with a continuity tester and they are all good. id hate to take it to a shop but i might have to. any other ideas?

is the interlock switch also the brake light switch?

from what ive read i think it controls the brake lights and also the speed control.
