pardon my title, but I really do have a stiffy on my hands. I'm running stock coils, 4 and and an overload leaf springs, and skyjacker shocks on my 94 extended cab shortbed. I don't have the ride quality i'm looking for. It seems like even mild bumps and deformities in the road are all very harsh. Alot of noise on bumps, too. About the only complaint I don't have with the ride is body roll, as the truck seems very poised through corners, for a truck anyway. This truck is my DD, and it sees mild trail action a few times a month or so.
So, I want it softer. Question answered right? Yea, I guess so. I have ~2" lift coils of an unknown rate, I'm assuming they'll be softer than stock, if not at least they'll level the damn thing.
On to my rear springs, I think these are the main culprit for my unforgiving ride, as they're pretty damn stiff. I think they're overpowering the front, making the front worse than it could be. I've had 900lbs. of scrap in the bed with only maybe a couple inches of sag. I'm looking to remove a leave(s). I'm thinking i'll start with one, which one should I remove? I will keep my overload as I do tow/haul with this truck every once in a while, maybe a couple times a month or so.
I'm running almost new 31 AT's at 30lbs front and rear, with good wear patterns all around. Also, I swapped some skyjacker shocks in all around. I have all new bj's, TRE's and wheelbearings in the front end. Body moutns are replaced with poly. So, i'm pretty sure my springs are the weak point in the ride.
So i want a more supple, balanced suspension, that soaks up road bumps better, but I'd like to avoid increasing body roll. Are there any other RBV sway bars, say from a B2 or an explorer, that are larger diameter and would bolt on to my 94? How much of a role do sway bars play in ride harshness? Would a stiffer sway bar have a negative effect on my ride?
I appreciate any help guys.
