Ranger Stepside Bumpers by Custom 4x4 Fab - OK

Bumper is on its way, should be here early next week.

Bumper is here but not installed.

Here are a few pictures:

The main body of the bumper is ⅛” and the mounting is ¼” and the shackles are through mounted to the frame mounting points.
No receiver hitch, I thought I wanted to use what I already have and I didn’t want the bumper to take the abuse in towing.
The plate mounting location is shallow, no ball mounting location.

Being a weldor myself, I've got to ask, why didn't they complete the welds? What they did is better than just a spot, but for the want of a little more wire, and a few minutes. Ya, I know, it's just a detail. Overall though, it should be a pretty tough bumper. These are built by hand?:icon_cheers:

Cant wait to see how the rear bumper looks once its fitted to the truck, i was thinkin bout tube bumpers but after seein how these have turned out so far i might have changed my mind! Good shit!

OK finally got some time and a little warmer weather so I got out and mounted the bumper, loosely but still got an idea where I need to mod the bumper a little.
Remember this is a prototype bumper as soon as I contact C4x4 Mike may incorporate my changes in his patterns.

So here you have the first fitting of the New Ranger Steppie Rear Bumper made by Custom 4x4 Fabrication of OK City, OK.
I need to trim some steel to allow for some movement of the bumper but thinking of mounting it a little higher so I may to trim more than I am thinking at the moment.
Everything is made of thick steel plating, the frame mounts are ¼” plate really HD and no stress marks where it has been bent.
A bolt kit comes along with the bumper, four grade 8 bolts for mounting to the frame and 8 grade 5 bolts to mount the bumper to the brackets.
C4x4 cut custom holes for my KC Backup Lights and mounted the shackle mounts to align with the frame mounting, extra strong positioning.
Take a look at the pictures and ask questions, if I can’t answer them you will need to contact Mike at Custom 4x4 Fabrication.
This guy is good, does quality work and produces a quality product, can not be beat, IMHO.
Pricing again, contact Mike at C4x4.
Mike took some drawing (sketches) and a top templet I sent to him and he produced a bumper so close to perfect I could leave it alone but a long career in Quality Assurance Engineering has made me a perfectionist and and I like thing just so.
To me this is the shop to do my work.

Frame Brackets - ¼” Plate:

Left Side, I am not sure and didn’t check yet to see if the Frame Brackets are upside down.
If the bracket were reversed it might bring the bumper up some to fill the gap.

Trimmed up the bumper around the side area.

Need to do a refit, then document the mods and send to C4x4, then off to Line-X.

Did he ever make a regular bed rear bumper

Did he ever make a regular bed rear bumper

Not for a Ranger that I am aware of.

Contact him, this bumper that I have can easily be converted to a styleside.

I would love that bumper with a hitch mount...does it bolt to the frame  or the bumper brackets

This is one of the bumper brackets that mount to the frame using the same mounting holes as an OEM bumper.

The Mounting Brackets are made of ¼” plate, very heavy duty.

Also, contact Custom 4x4 Fabrication about the hitch, he asked me if I wanted one but I didn’t at the time.

Got new bumper brackets to raise the bumper 1.25".
Needs a adjusting.

Will post pics tomorrow.

Sorry no pic so far.
Got the bumpers and back rack back from sandblasters.
Used a metal etching primer on all parts, six cans of the stuff and ran out, no one in town has any more DuPont Metal Etching Primer, road trip coming up need to finish these things.

Going to paint them with DuPont Rattle Can, Hot Rod Black, sort of a semi-gloss black, should be ok.

Powder coating was reasonably priced but I am not a fan of it and trying to repair it is a b!tch so that is out. Chose the painting route just for repairability and cost effective.

Hoping to find some more Etching Primer today, a little clean up on the back rack and rear bumper re-spray with primer and on the the finish coating.

Hoping for on the truck status next week, after the trim on the house and finishing the roof on the shed projects.
