My 1992 Ranger has slop in the steering and when I am driving I feel the steering loosen up and I have no response from the steering wheel, then when I countersteer right to adjust the vehicle from turning left there is a delay in the response and then I am suddenly forced back to the right, and I have been unable to find a pattern except it always happens at around 35mph,and occasionally at hwy speeds. Also when I am at low speeds when I turn sharp the vehicle feels like it is unable to re-align its center when I come out of the turn. Any ideas I would appreciate the help

Inspect your front end. Looseness can come from anywhere in there and does not have to be in the box.

Don't even try to adjust the box. I've seen exactly one credible report of successful adjustment in 10 years. If it's really loose, it needs replacement.

"Lack of response" CAN be poor alignment (specifically, large toe-out).

Ranger steering problem

Tie rods are all new but I will defenitely check the alignment and see if that is the problem, thanks for the advice I will probably have more questions for you if this doesnt fix the problem, appreciate any help or input you have
