i must say some of my best memories in a ranger are from the ol 88 2wd, but 4wd is a nice thing to have.

Cant weld it. if i do i wont be able to carry heavy stuff in the bed, so the truck will be useless to me.
a welded diferential, 2k pounds or so in the bed on a corner and the axle shafts will snap

bullshit it will. get a dude whos a good welder and itll hold for a good while. unless your dumping the clutch with 2k pounds on 90 degree pavement turns, but tis not like you have a v8 (no offence).. over time yeah sure itll brake

I really don't think your 2.5 has the power to start snapping axles, you'll roast your clutch before you do anything like that. Even in a v8 you would need a very, VERY good traction plant for an axle to break loose before a tire does. Your truck doesn't have the power and your roads don't have the traction to cause such problems, in my opinion.
