Ranger serial number location

Does anyone know whether Ford stamps the serial number somewhere on the chassis? I am trying to register a Ranger in France, and they require that the number actually be stammped into the chassis, somewhere. I haven't found the number anywhere, but maybe I am not looking in the right place.

wanna say i heard it was stamped on top of the frame rail somewhere between the body and frame, but i may be wrong

Thanks. I looked everywhere I could on the frame rails, from front to back, but could not find anything stamped there. <sigh>

I guess I have to buy a set of letters and numbers and stamp it myself.
